KARACHI: Pakistani sprinter Sahib e Asra has been asked to pay heavy tax on imported spikes which she received as a gift.

Asra, who recently won two golds in the 34th National Games in Quetta, received imported spikes as a gift which will help her resume her training.

"Someone gifted me new spikes which I direly needed to resume my training. When I went to receive the shoes, I was asked to pay PKR68,000 as a tax on it," the national sprinter shared in a video message.

"I was really surprised to see the tax amount because even the shoes cost less than this. These spikes are worth PKR55,000 and someone gifted me as a help.

"I don't have shoes as my old pair is expired now. I would like to request the government to please sort out this issue," the South Asian Games' bronze medalist appealed.

As per the athlete, the courier company's representative told her that the tax is imposed by the authorities which is compulsory on imported items.

In the recently concluded National Games, Lyallpur-born Asra won two gold medals (4×100m relay & 4×400m relay) while representing Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). She also bagged a silver medal in 400m.
